Red Bluff High School

Independent Study

Independent Study (IS) is a voluntary program available to all Red Bluff Joint Union High School District students. Grades 9 through 12 are served through an online instructional platform which provides a course of study that meets RBJUHSD graduation requirements.  Students must be able to access the internet via a computer or tablet to utilize the online program.  Access to a computer lab is available by appointment Monday through Friday at the ISP campus.

To enroll in IS, students need to make a request through the Red Bluff High Counseling Department at (530) 529-8724.  Upon enrollment, students are paired with an individual teacher who meets at least weekly with each student. At the weekly appointment, the teacher assigns classes, monitors progress, addresses concerns, and provides general counseling services.  IS students are graded on an “A” through “F” scale.  Typically, IS students are enrolled in one class at a time, and a new class is assigned upon completion.  IS students are required to complete a minimum of 2 credits per week in order to be in good standing.  Students who fail to earn 2 credits per week are considered truant and may lose the privilege to attend IS.

IS students are not able to participate in main campus activities such as athletics, performing arts, and clubs.  However, with teacher approval, IS students are able to attend main campus events.  Independent Study has a voluntary graduation ceremony at the end of each academic year.

Please contact us at (530) 529-8757 with any questions about the program.
